My Wedding

To some, my wedding was just you know a traditional two people getting married, sharing their love and commitment to each other. Although many, Infact almost all the attendees do not realize how special this day, or even prior to it is actually meant to me.

I always dreamed of finding “the one” to get married to. The traditional one who would ask my father to marry me and with approval would propose. My wedding day was never to be big full of flowers, food, drinks and a party. It was to be simple and family orientated. Most importantly, it was for my Dad to walk me down the aisle.

As my Dad was getting older, I feared my dad would not be here to walk me down the aisle. It worried me that the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with would never ask him. My husband never believed in marriage. I was so torn thinking my dream of my wedding day, would never come.

My husband knew my main thing was for my Dad to walk his youngest daughter down the aisle. To feel proud and happy handing his youngest off to another man to care and love for eternity.

Fast forward, 4 years later, my husband had our son ask if I would marry his Dad. Of course I said yes. I was very confused, but happy. Over the next year we planned the wedding.

My parents suggested to not rush and we could always forward the date to the following year. Something inside of me just wanted it to be done sooner rather than later.

My Dad wanted to make sure everything was perfect. He sent me pictures of the things my mother and him worked on, had this plan of how everything would work from travelling to handing me off.

My wedding was small and relaxed. It was not a fairy tale wedding with big dresses, big hall and catering. It was exactly what I wanted. Outdoors in the fall, come as you are just to share the day. All homemade food including the cake in which the children made. Was it picture perfect? Not most people’s idea of picture perfect wedding, but for me, it was absolutely beautiful.

Family, a few friends, good food and an interactive style set up. And most importantly, my Dad walking me down the grass to hand me off to my now husband.

Just over one year later, my Dad passed away.
