Rocket Money's Rowan Rewrites What AI Can Do in Personal Finance

Rocket Money, a subsidiary of Rocket Companies (NYSE: RKT), has introduced Rowan, an AI agent designed to move beyond simple financial monitoring. By utilizing conversational text messaging, the tool actively manages a user’s finances rather than just displaying data on a dashboard.

Rowan serves as a constant monitor for your personal finances.

Developed in collaboration with Anthropic, Rowan tracks spending habits around the clock. When it identifies potential savings, it alerts the userexecutes the necessary steps, such as negotiating recurring bills, canceling unwanted subscriptions, or initiating automated savings transfers

While most personal finance applications remain passive by providing dashboards that require the user to perform the heavy lifting, Rowan handles these tasks on the user’s behalf.

What we’ve built with Rowan wasn’t possible even 12 months ago,” said Aaron Dignan, VP of Agentic Products at Rocket Money. “It finds the money slipping through the cracks, the forgotten subscriptions, the bills that creep up, and it actually does something about them. That’s the difference between knowing and acting.”

Rowan utilizes a sophisticated architecture of AI agents trained on Rocket Money’s proprietary data. This creates an unprecedented system that combines financial monitoring with advanced reasoning to provide users with greater control. Rowan is capable of identifying opportunities and performing complex, real-world tasks based on direct user instructions.

For instance, if a user signs up for a free streaming trial, Rowan tracks the timeline. Three weeks later, it will text the user to ask if they are enjoying the service or if they would like to cancel before the billing cycle begins. If the user replies “cancel,” Rowan contacts the provider, terminates the trial, and confirms the action. This eliminates the need for logging into accounts, navigating long conversations, or waiting on hold.

If a user wants to save money while maintaining their daily coffee habit, they can simply text Rowan: “Every time I buy a coffee, round up to the nearest dollar and put the extra change in my high-yield savings account.” Rowan then configures the automation, ensuring every subsequent coffee purchase triggers a round-up and transfer.

This represents a significant shift from passive financial tracking to proactive management, moving the experience from “here’s what you spent” to “here’s how I can help.”

The system is designed for continuous improvement. When Rowan encounters a unique situation, such as a subscription service with a complex cancellation process, it learns from the interaction. It analyzes the problem, determines a solution, and applies that fix across the entire platform, ensuring that every resolved edge case becomes a permanent upgrade for all users.
