Hot travel trend turns vacations into multi

As travelers begin organizing their summer getaways, a fresh report highlights the latest industry trends, emphasizing the rise of the “family affair” vacation.

American Express Travel recently published its annual global travel trends report for 2025, identifying “fam travel” as a key movement centered on spending quality time with loved ones.

Audrey Hendley, president of American Express Travel, said, “Travelers, especially millennials and Gen Z, are motivated to book thoughtful, meaningful trips this year.”

“Fam travel” is a multi-generational trend with grandparents, parents and children all packing their bags,” Hendley said in a press release.

The study revealed that 58% of millennial and Gen Z parents intend to include extended family members on their upcoming vacations.

Among those millennial and Gen Z parents, 89% identified “quality time” as the primary motivation for these trips.

Meanwhile, 24% of respondents noted that they bring extended family along to assist with childcare.

When it comes to organizing travel itineraries, younger family members are increasingly taking charge.

Sixty-eight percent of parents in the millennial and Gen Z demographics report that their children are actively involved in scheduling activities for the family vacation.

Another movement, dubbed “roots travel,” is gaining traction as Americans increasingly incorporate their ancestry into their vacation planning.

Nearly a quarter of the people said they bring along extended family for babysitting.

Adam Duckworth, president and founder of Travelmation, told Fox News Digital that roots travel is more prevalent among older generations.

“They also have the finances to support a trip like this, and they often invite other family members to join them,” said Duckworth.
